After months of lobbying the state government, the Events Industry has had a major win with Geoff Gallop today announcing that Perth will have a new multi-purpose indoor stadium built, owned and fully funded by the State Government. A project that is estimated at costing $160 million will consist of a state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium with a concert crowd capacity of approximately 14,000 and include a retractable roof to ensure the future of the Hopman Cup stays in Perth.
After earlier announcing that the Government was only going to fund $50 million towards the project which was to be drip-fed over a 20 year period, Camille Bradsmith and the Events Industry Association continued to push and rally the government to come up with a more suitable outcome. The response by the Government to fully fund the new world class stadium is welcomed by the Events Industry Association and will attract world class performers and international sporting events back into Perth.
Creating employment opportunities in constructing and managing the venue, the Government is encouraging Western Australian companies to support the operation of the new stadium, benefiting not just the Events Industry but also Industries including the Food and Beverage and the Tourism Industries
Building will commence around October next year and will take about 2 years to complete.
