Perth Lose Last Venue

The events industry is in mourning over the loss of the last remaining venue in Perth capable of hosting major touring acts and performances. After Delta Goodrem's performance on July 8th 2005, the Burswood Dome will no longer take bookings for concerts. This is due to noise restrictions imposed with the new residential high rise being developed on land in close proximity to the Centre. Given that the Entertainment Centre still has its doors closed, there is no option of an indoor venue for major touring acts coming to Perth.

So what will these touring acts do?

Answer:
Leave Perth off the Australian Touring Map. This will be catastrophic to the events industry, and further more leave the West Australian public to either miss out on these events, or come up with the costly sum to travel to the Eastern States to enjoy their favourite artists.

Due to the unforeseen circumstances faced by Kylie Minogue, her tour of Australia has been postponed. She was to play at the Burswood Dome before its closing, but now if she decides to come back in the near future, where will she perform?

The West Australian Government has promised $50 Million towards a new complex. Great news, but $50 Million is only a drop in the ocean of what it costs to build a new venue - especially considering this pledge is not for the immediate development of the venue, but to be drip-fed over a 2 0 year period. Every other State Government in Australia has fully funded their own Entertainment Complex, so what about WA? Even if the building is given the immediate go ahead, we are still looking at a minimum of 3 years before the building would be completed.

CCP Managing Director Camille Bradsmith, who is also the Chairperson of WA Events Industry Association, is part of a team of industry members rallying the local government to address this issue.

But what is the industry suppose to do in the mean time? This is a matter that should have been addressed by the government when we lost the Entertainment Centre.
